Your New Resolution

Why are so many of us so accepting of poor vision? We are continuously in the dialogue in our head- my vision is fine, I am fine with my contacts, I like wearing glasses, I have worn glasses for so long- I will miss having it on my face.

I believe everyone has the fundamental right to absorb the world in all its fine glory without being held back by poor vision with or without glasses and contact lens. I have deliberated on the literature and real life experiences detailing the safety of Laser eye surgery, refractive cataract surgery, presbyopia management, implantable contact lens, Lenticular Extraction Refractive Surgery, SMILE, Keratoconus treatment and corneal transplant surgeries.

I would love to explore whether freedom from glasses or contact lens is an option for you. I aim to deliver the best expert vision care in the kindest and most gentle way.

WELCOME TO BETTER QUALITY VISION

Transform your vision Transform your life

Your vision contributes two thirds of the input to your brain. All the other senses together only make up one third. Vision is our dominant sense and reduced vision totally affects our lives. An example is that poor vision increases the risk of falling by 2 to 3 times. Spectacle vision correction using varifocal glasses also significantly increases our risk of falls and fractures, especially going down stairs. It is also now known that reduced vision doubles our long-term risk of dementia, one of the biggest potentially avoidable factors.
As well as the known medical risks of poor vision, there are also the effects on well-being and the way we feel.
You may be reading this as you are not happy with your vision, or you don’t see as well as you would like to. You may also feel limited or restricted by your glasses or contact lenses. It is a common misconception that vision correction is for young people, but there is no upper age for the correction or enhancement of your vision. Miss Khanam specialises in being your advisor in the journey to having the best possible vision. Many people find vision correction to be liberating.

A word from the Ophthalmologist

Dear Patient,

I saw first-hand the freedom precise and quality vision can bring to a person, when I was aged 8, accompanying my parents after my Grandmother had her cataract surgery. My grandmother saw her grandchild for the first time with clarity. She no longer struggled seeing through heavy, clunky glasses with distortions that could never be eliminated. She could see the world as it is and that many of us take for granted. She commented on the vivid colours of the grass and the sky. She could see the clock in her room and never again felt disoriented. Simple things brought her so much joy. She complained that the mirror must be wrong, as the person staring back at her was so much older than her with so many wrinkles, but it was a joy to be able to see them.

The decision to have refractive surgery can be exciting but evokes anxiety for most normal people. I understand and empathise with this and will treat you with gentle compassion and kindness and will answer your questions to the best of my ability and to your satisfaction. I will inform and educate you and advise you if you are a good candidate and give you my professional opinion. Treatment is bespoke, tailor-made designed for your needs and may offer you no treatment if that is the most appropriate for you. This means I will check multiple times the treatment and surgical plan before we proceed.

I believe you will be confident you made the correct decision to begin your journey with me, aiming to offer you only the best. I very much look forward to welcoming you and introducing you to your options and for many, the new freedom of the best possible vision.

Yours sincerely,

Tina B. Khanam MBBS, BSc, MSc, FRCOphth, CertLRS, PG Dip CRS
